If you have a little one that loves nature and insects, here are some great gift ideas!
Magnetic Bug Fishing Puzzle- This is so much fun!
Bug House- This is great for catching bugs and observing them. Our favorite to observe are lightning bugs! We got these play bugs to go along with the “bug house” and they were a hit!
These books are all amazing! When my son was 3.5 we read all of these. While reading the nonfiction books, be sure to point out things like the table of contents, glossary, and other text features. Explain the purpose of each. As a teacher, I feel like it is never too early!
Butterfly Garden- You buy the kit and there is a voucher inside for baby caterpillars. You just pay for the shipping. The magic of real-life lessons!
Backyard Safari Vest- Try not to giggle when you see how adorable this is!
Bug Adventure Kit
Create-A-Scene Magnetic Bugs- These sets are great for car rides, plane rides, doctor offices, and restaurants. It is fun to watch your child use their imagination! This is great tool to work on your child’s vocabulary, positional words (under, over, next to), and verbs. The possibilities are endless!
Bug Game- This game is geared towards 2-3 year-old children. I love playing quick games with my kids. We are all about learning through play. This game works on sorting, color identification, counting, taking turns, and fine motor skills. I taught third grade and first grade for 12 years. One skill that student’s have a hard time with and need modeled is how to be okay with losing. This is such a struggle for many kids. So, don’t feel bad to beat your child in a game. It is good for them!
In the middle of the night I was getting a burp cloth out for my twins. I went to get one and one of these giant bugs were on top of them. I was in full on panic mode for a good five minutes. I was trying to get the courage to open the drawer back up. In my defense, when you are getting two hours of sleep a night, those things are terrifying!
Bug Crafts- These are so much fun! These sets are perfect for a quick craft. These work best for children 3 and up. We found our own glue sticks work better then the one provided. I love that each bug craft is in its own bag so you are ready to create! Did I mention they are precut and have over 150 stickers? What a great snowy/rainy day activity!
I like how it has creatures you can build at various levels. My son plays with this independently and with an adult. I think this is a great way to get him ready for the Lego sets! Breaking apart more complex pictures and building them step-by-step is a hard skill for little ones. I’ve found it is helpful when I cover part of the picture or fold it back so he can concentrate on one part at a time. I can see how proud he is to do it independently!
