I created a giant list of toys and activities to keep your kids busy when you are traveling or on-the-go! You can store these items in a small book bag or cosmetic bag. You can take it to restaurants, airports, doctor appointments, hotels, or car rides! I have a rule that it is only for on-the-go! My oldest begs to play with the items at home. That is what makes this so amazing and special! I have it in the back of my car and pull it out when we need it. I rotate the items when I see they need a change! It has saved me on so many occasions.
Please click on the pictures to take you to my Amazon affiliate links. I make a very tiny profit which I am able to use to try out toys so you don’t buy duds 🙂
Travel Tray- This is softer for the safety of your child, but firm enough to play on.
Have you ever seen this?!?! It is a suitcase and a ride on toy all in one! If you have a layover or you are taking a trip to a hotel, this would be a blast to ride around the room! My friend told me about it and it sounds amazing! Her two kids took it on vacation a couple years ago. My boys would love it! You have to watch the video. SO adorable!
Sticker Sets-stickers can keep my kids busy for a good amount of time! For an educational spin, have them create stories with the sticker creations.
Scratch Art- 5+ Kids are obsessed with scratch art!
No Mess Markers-Only works on the paper!
Kahootz Fashion Plates- this brings back so many memories!
Art set with mini markers! I also included one that only makes marks on the special paper.
Writing fun! You can use this to practice spelling words or have them trace the templates that come with it.
Travel Transportation Set- I also included some car tape. Personally, I would just use it on the carpet. This tape is so fun for kids to make their own roads!
Tegu 8 Piece Set- It is pricey, but it has amazing reviews!
Water Wow- The Water Wow kept my son busy for 45 minutes! It dries and you can “color” it all over again! It has a cult following for a reason!
Wikki Stixs- My students love using these for practicing their spelling words or making pictures! They are waxy bendable sticks and fun to use at a restaurant.
Magnetic Tins- This is not for children who put things in their mouth. 3+
Lego Carrier- We have a set similar to the red one. I love that the base plate is included for on-the-go fun!
Colorforms- These stick to car windows! They came with a carrying case that unfolds to create your own scene. My son has a Spiderman one with a handle at the top which makes it easy to carry. I was surprised at how durable the reusable stickers are. I tried and they do not rip! I love that they have different character sets.
Window Clings- If you are on a plane or car and have a window seat, window clings are fun too! You can also use them on a hotel window! Just don’t buy the gel ones 🙂
Mini Figures- These are my oldest child’s favorite! He loves mixing and matching sets. The ocean creatures would be a fun theme if you are traveling to the beach. My son begs to play with the space set. It would be a cute gift to pair with a space book!
Mini Diggers and Pull Back Cars
Blocks- Put some in a small Ziploc or plastic container. Not many blocks are needed. That is when creativity comes into play. We love playing with these at a restaurant.
Dress Up Magnets-3+
Plush Pets- My kids love putting toys in containers. They love these!
Buckle Toy- These are so popular and have perfect reviews! You can even attach the pillow buckle to a shopping cart for your child while you shop blissfully through Target 🙂
These are basically a fidget toy for babies! Let’s face it. It is hard to keep a baby busy on a card ride.
Soft books- Your baby will love the interactive nature of these books.

Here are some card games we will be bringing on our beach vacation! Hopefully this new favorite isn’t sold out! I sold out several times since before Christmas! I get so competitive laying this. My husband really dislikes games and loves playing this!
Color by Numbers
This is a great activity for kids! The paint is built into the paper. So all you need is a cup of water. This is great for airplane rides, vacation houses and hotel rooms!
Etch a Sketch
Inflatable beach ball or smashable balls- I am planning on taking a beach ball with us. It is great because it lays flat in my suitcase and will keep the boys entertained for a long time! You can also do this with balloons.
Bubbles for rest stops! We always have bubbles in our car. These are no spill bubbles! I am planning on finding some places for the kids to play along the drive! Parks or schools with playgrounds are a great place to try!
Blanket, neck pillow, eye mask- I think these are so adorable!

Carsick- Don’t forget to pack a bag in case someone gets car sick! You can include Clorox wipes, baby wipes, Dramamine, trash bag, extra clothes and socks handy, diaper, Ziploc bags for clothing, pretzels and crackers, clear Gatorade/Pedialyte, motion sickness bracelets, and water bottle for rinsing items. If you are flying, be sure to take pacifiers, lollipops, sippy cups, and gum.
Here are the travel cubes I bought! My family cracks up at the amount of Ziploc baggies I use to pack each outfit. I decided to get some packing cubes. GAME CHANGER! These are the best!! They are so durable and will last forever! I love that I can pack swim in one, socks in the other, etc! It makes my heart happy!
A drive home from vacation is the absolute worst. I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation! I have picked out some sanity savers that are also tech free! Be prepared and save a good number of toys for the dreaded ride home. Another tip I recently learned, take off your child’s shoes right when they get in the car. It becomes a mess underneath them and this is super helpful for quick stops. Also be sure to have some carsick supplies handy in case. I remember a car trip where my niece threw up everywhere when she was little. It was awful. It was a first time for that. We had to stop and find a place to buy supplies to clean it up.
